We had almost given up trying to locate this one.

Salina is a very small settlement in Four Mile Canyon, about ten miles west of Boulder – a few historic buildings, a few cabins, a very nice old church (founded about 1904), but not much else remaining of a mining town founded in about 1870. Most of our sources indicated that there was a cemetery there, but our GPS couldn’t get us to it – bad coordinates, or getting turned around in the twisting canyon, or some combination thereof.

We took a chance on a small dirt road until we hit a private property fenceline, and as I was turning my head to three-point-turn-around, we spotted it in the trees.

Looks like 5 stones, clear evidence of a handful of other gravesites (marked by rocks, smaller, probably children). Soot and charred wood from the Four Mile Canyon fire of 2010 lay scattered about. Tiny place, and given the size of the town at its height, one assumes many unmarked graves lay beneath.
