Tori Spelling, who I’m not sure I would consider a reliable resource for about anything other than the dysfunction of growing up a spoiled brat in the cradle of Hollywood luxury, reports that she had a spiritual visitation from Farah Fawcett (who passed from cancer in 2009), facilitated by our favorite TV medium John Edward (incorrectly identified in this piece as “John Edwards”…who probably has enough of his own problems not being mistaken for the “I’m getting an ‘I’, or maybe it’s an ‘A’” guy. )

I was talking to a medium,” Spelling told Access Hollywood in an interview to promote her third memoir, “uncharted terriTORI,” which hit bookstores on Tuesday. “I was hoping my dad (‘Charlie’s’ Angels’ producer Aaron Spelling) would come through.”

“Farrah Fawcett came through in my reading loud and clear,” Spelling continued. “It was really awkward for him as well. He’s like, ‘I have never had this happen.’ ”

We’re not generally big fans of psychic mediumship. Both Sharon and I visited a number of them, with completely open minds, in genuine attempts to contact our deceased first spouses, with results that varied from the pathetic to the comical – although in fairness, one of them did provide Sharon some startlingly accurate results in one telephone reading, and described quite accurately a different deceased relative in another.

Ask us sometime about our psychometry experience. That was fun.

Anyway, we remain generally skeptical about psychic mediums (we generally do not believe their claims, although are always willing to be persuaded otherwise), though we ARE great fans of John Edward’s TV spirit-channeling shtick, which we consider highly stylized (if somewhat cynical) performance art for the grieving, with next to nothing to do with the afterlife.

Having said that, we’re not entirely oblivious to the seeming paradox between actually seeking EVP messages from the deceased in haunted locations on one hand, and dismissing as almost certainly fraudulent message received psychically from self-professed mediums.

That’s an interesting question – again, going back to biases, faith in evidence and transparency of process. We’ll come back to this subject in another post. Feel free to share your thoughts.
