“If you’re with us, can you give us a sign of your presence?”
I mean….when you start to peel off the layers here, this is really a pretty silly way to address the deceased. Is it okay if we treat spirits as if they had a brain, and were really there, and maybe aren’t interested in playing parlor tricks for strangers with funny blinking devices? Is it possible that NOT giving us a ‘sign’ may mean they don’t want to?
What’s wrong with, “Hello, how are you today? My name is Dave, I am a friend of the occupant here, can you tell me your name please?” As if, just maybe, they’re not there just to make our LED’s blink and our EMF needles jump, and that – guess what – we’re actually in their home.
