We just got back from a weeklong trip to Cleveland visiting family (and a few cool cemeteries), and by chance we happened to catch a local talk show, with the author of Holy Ghosts, a firsthand account of a local guy, a man of somewhat devout Catholic faith, whose house was haunted and eventually purged with the help of a local psychic. We missed his book signing unfortunately, but something about this story struck a chord with us. Maybe it’s the reactive response of too many sensationalistic ghost hunting programs, but the plain spoken nature of this guy recalling his experiences and the psychic’s uncannily accurate statements about the house and its past just seemed to represent what we ghost hunters are really seeking – genuine and humble inquiry into the paranormal, not overly scripted and overly digitized charades into melodrama.
